Was able to sample this beer on-tap from a keg brought all the way from San Jose, California to Cedar Falls, Iowa...by none other than Greg Starbeck, whose last name led to the play-on-words that is "Starbock". Apparently many people think this beer was named after the Starbucks chain, which is a misnomer according to my sources.
Dark, yet relatively clear amber color with a tan head that holds very well...also leaves some nice webs of lacing on the glass. Smell is rich caramel malts..maybe as heavy caramel as I've ever smelled or tasted in a beer. Diacetyl abounds...thick butterscotch malt flavor..but not overly offensive, surprisingly. No real hop character present to balance it out. Medium-bodied and the mouthfeel is somewhat oily. Very smooth..I'm not sure what the ABV is on this one. I was told it was fairly high..(in the 7-8% range), but it sure didn't taste like it. If I had to guess, I'd say it was somewhere between 5-6%.
The keg is still available this weekend, so I may stop back to "sample" some more. Will update if the review changes at all. Overall, a pretty decent brew. Very easy to drink and a good, yet relatively simple, malt flavor. Glad I had the chance to try it. Try some at the brewpub if you get a chance.

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
