I thought this was a pretty nice well balanced beer. Right away I liked the appearance, deep amber color with a thick, foamy head. A nice amount of lace on the glass too. Aroma is slightly sweet and malty. Spicy, malty and sweet tasting with just a hint of bitter hops in the finish. Pretty good.

poured from a 12oz bottle into a mug

A- beautiful! a deep, rich amberish brown. the head was small and light brown. my expectations were high because of how good it looked.

S- hops, maybe a little wheat

T- heavy metal!!! no, really. tasted like aluminum. the hops flavor was dominant up front, in the back and middle it was all metal though. nasty.

M- it was smooth and well carbonated.

D- nah, i wouldnt have it again.

This offering from Nutfield pours a reddish-brown that leaves a thin lace in the glass that disappears quickly. The aroma is faint, it has a caramel, nutty, floural hop aroma. As I taste this brew, It has a creamy mouthfeel, with a slightly watered vinous feel on the palate. Again I have to stress the taste is bland, not much going on, the hoppiness I expect is lacking. In the finish is stays with that soft caramel malty sweetness, overall not exciting could have more complexity in the body, as well as there is something about the nutfield brews that give them all the same basic character/finish not a good thing.

A very interesting beer that is pretty good...

Pours dark auburn in color, rather translucent but dark. Not much head, moderate carbonation. Smells consist of slight malts, hops, and hints of vanilla. Not much sweetness, more like vanilla extract. Taste follows well with a heavier than pale ale flavor and mouthfeel with some pronounced vanilla. Not very sweet, again, but good. Mouthfeel is a little thin and dry, however.

Thanks to beermaninpa for the trade...
Appears a light amber with a small white cap and a bit of streaky lacing.
Smell...when you're sliding into first and you smell the butter burst, Diacytel...Diacytel! That along with a gross metallic aroma.
Taste is of watered down caramel with bitterness and butter...blech.
Mouthfeel is dry and thin.
Drinkability...no more, thanks.

Pours an amber colour into the glass. The head is off-white and long lasting. Has a little perfumed aroma and also hints of caramel. It has a nice and a little roasted taste. The taste is also a little fruity, with some hints of caramel. The aftertaste is a little thin and a dry. This is a pretty good beer, easy to drink.

A tight creamy off white head sits atop clear tea-like light brown liquid. Nose of delicately sweet malt with an undertone of light roasty/earthy graininess. No hop aroma to speak of. The taste is light-bodied with sweet nutty maltiness, light fruit and finally, some low key hopping. Finishes weakly bittersweet. Well made, a nice one to drink in quantity without getting hammered by hops/alcohol.

Pours a very clear dark amber with a big, dense and creamy head that dies down to leave a very nice lace - covering the top of the brew.
It smells like, wow, I mean, just like wow. Um. Malty buttery caramel diacetyl... It smells like Old Thumper tastes! What's up with that? Probably a yeast thing, I'd guess.
Still, the flavor isn't quite up to the aroma - very light malt flavor with a sharp hop tang to it. I really mean tang. Like, it's not bitter or citrusy - it's definitely tangy. Blech. And now, a good hour later I still have a tangy aftertaste in my mouth. I'm going to go and take care of that right away...

I tried the Auburn Ale at the Nutfield joint in Manchester and I really enjoyed it. Off the bat, it has a nice, dark red colour to the drink. Not much head on top, and whatever head exists settles quite nicely. The smell is very malty. Before sipping, I took a nice whiff of the pint and it was a good, strong odour. The taste parallels the smell: malty, with a caramel-like aftertaste. The Auburn Ale holds its own; it is not watered down. It is very smooth, especially when it goes down. Given its strong standing, having more than three pints will affect you greatly. However, it doesn't leave you with a full feeling in your stomach. One of my new faves in the Nutfield collection.

Part of a "Mixed Nuts" pack and a darn good brew, Poured an amber gold, as its name implies...good head that dissipated into a nice lacing. Nice malt presence in the aroma. Taste was very good with the roasted malt coming through nicely, but fading toward the back of the palate. A medium mouthfeel with a balanced feel ended in an extremely drinkable product. A very nice surprise!

Three years ago, I would have thought this beer the bomb. Today, I think it's a very drinkable ale. Not waterdown, it holds its own when poured. Nice amber color with good hops and malts. It claims its an Irish Red on the six pack caddy, but in reality it's a good down to earth throw it down ale. Nothing wrong with that.

I guess this review is based mainly on the context of the brew i was drinking around this one. The aroma is mellow and malty. The malty buttery caramel malt flavor is teh primary component of the beer and makes for a tasty interruption to a night of roasted winter porters and heavy stouts.

Pours a copper color with a tan creamy head that leaves ASAP. leaves very little lace. The smell of caramel malt is strong with earthy overtones. Hops are not very strong but a little bitter. overall this is a good beer but my home brew is better I think.

Clear dark copper color, nice lasting head. Caramel, butterscotch, lightly toasted malts on the nose. Toasted biscuity flavor. Mellow flavoring hops. Puckering dry Ringwood properties. This beer is three months past its notch and held up pretty well.

Has a lovely, dark-copper color. Thin, fine head hung around, but not much lace left anywhere. Loved the nose: big, caramel, sweet malty nose! Mmmm. Unfortunately, the flavor didn't follow suit as I was initially let down by it. Had a touch of that malty, caramel flavor, but it was overpowered by bitterness throughout the finish. A bit thin in the body, and somewhat rough, too.

Redish orange with an off white head. Crisp and lightly fruity.
A little more body would have been nice but still a very drinkable beer.

Tasting note of beer before it was contract brewed. Chestnut color. Buttery nose with sweet malt hints. Dry, bitter flavor upfront gives way to sweet, vanilla hints. Can be smokey at times. Traditional Nufield British malt flavor.

Presentation: 12 oz. with the same tree scene, although slightly altered to change the mood of the beer. Fall perhaps? No freshness date.

Appearance: Light coloured with a thin white head.

Smell: Malty aroma with whiffs of hop.

Taste: Nice blends of sweet and dry, with touches of tartness. Refreshingly crisp and a bit nutty, finishing dry.

Notes: Perfect hop bitterness subdued by a malty dryness. A decent drinking session brew for sure.
