(Served in a tulip glass)
The bartender described this as a DIPA that was a little like a Barley-Wine.
A- This beer has a warm orangish-brown body that is opaque with a creamy off-white head that last a good while. There was a nice gentle carbonation of tiny bubbles rising to the surface around the edge of the glass.
S- The sweet smell of caramel malt finished with a big spicy hop nose and some faint alcohol hints.
T- The sweet caramel malt helped balance the big spicy hop flavors that hung on the breath after each sip. The hops were big green flavors with notes of spice, grapefruit and an almost mint (but not sweet mint) flavor. The alcohol taste at the finish helped cut the sweetness of the malt and blended very nicely with the complex hops.
M- This beer had a medium mouthfeel with a smooth alcohol heat at the finish.
D- This beer was big but it was well balanced and the alcohol, malt and hops all stood out as distinct flavors. However the hops let you know that they were in charge.
