I definitely wasn't expecting to get a Tripel at Piece, but it's a change from the usual identical-but-awesome IPA/APA/DIPAs that I get there.

13 oz. tulip, pours opaque gold with two, maybe more fingers of thick, foamy carbonation and a metric shit-ton of lacing.

The aroma is sweet but not insipid, with candyish character and that weird Delirium Tremens-style bubblegum note. Some spicy phenols, and a hint of American hops.

This is pretty subdued for a tripel, but I like that.

The flavor is more or less the same. What really impressed me about this beer was how cloying it wasn't. Tripels have never been one of my favorite styles, with the exception of oddballs like Houblon Chouffe (which is arguably a "Belgian IPA.") This is definitely not your average tripel, but it doesn't deviate hugely from the style-- it's just more subdued and balanced. I think that the American hops are definitely helping here.

The mouthfeel is heavy, but not too rich; definitely the most drinkable "legitimate" Tripel I've had.
