On tap at the brewery...This is one of the best Piece beers hands down...Pours a super dark orange throughout, lightly see through. Light tan head, not much retention or lacing...The aroma is light with orange and maltiness on the front, light hops at the back. Its nice but not strong enough bitter for a dipa...The taste is what sets this aparts, its a really sweet and easy to drink dipa. Super sweet but nice orange and caramel on the front. Light pine on the back. Not much pine or hops for an ipa let alone a dipa. however, its so tasty and hides the 11% so great.
Overall, a sweet and super easy to drink dipa. This is really good and you should seek this out. Its not for hop heads though and the description of being a destroyer of palates is not accurate.

A: Exceedingly hazed, cloudy, murky brownish liquid, served with a good 1/2" of tight-foamed white head.
S: Could smell this one as the waitress was walking by the table. Hugely fragrant nose of sweet citrus, predominantly orange and to a lesser extent grapefruit. Alcohol tickles the nose.
T: Strong flavor of citrus and orange with a rather sweet malty backbone. Alcoholic bite on the finish. Oddly, this one is rather balanced between a heavy dose of malts, hops, and alcohol.
M: Medium bodied with heavier carbonation. Spicy fusel alcohol.
D: First of all, this isn't a "triple" IPA, whatever the fuck that is in the first place. Secondly, this beer isn't anywhere near being pale - typically not a criticism I would make of a IPA or IIPA, but this one is darker than some brown ales I've had. In the end, it's a good beer, but the alcohol is too aggressive, giving this beer a very "rough" feel to it.

Served on tap in a 13 oz. stemmed tulip glass on-site at Piece (June 5, 2010).
So, I went to Piece for dinner, and I ordered a Wack Job (DIPA), the server says they are no longer making it, but they have an even more potent "Triple" IPA called "H...oppenheimer" (pronounced hoppenheimer). The beer menu's description of the offering simply states: "I am become Hops, the destroyer of palates." How could I say no?
Eyes: Pours a semi-hazy, rusty amber color. The thin head is off-white and lingers decently. Lacing is light, but what's there is thick.
Nose: The aroma is potent but not as pungent as I'd expect from the so called "triple" IPA. It's very fruity sweet with ripe citrus.
Tongue: Bam! What an beautiful assault on the tongue. More complex than the nose, ripe fruity mango, and caramel sweet. It's spicy but not in a way that contrasts with the sweetness and isn't exceptionally grassy. The bitterness is intense but carries a massive amount of flavor with it.
Mouth: Thick, slightly syrupy with just enough carbonation to keep it lively.
Libation: The term "massive beer" gets thrown around too much in my opinion, but it's succinct in this case. For such an onslaught on the tongue and high ABV, this goes down very easily. This is a super potent hop bomb beer that the brewers actually managed to pull off, truly a delicious elixir.

Appears an opaque haze of amber with a fluffy beige head that slowly fades into a batter like cap. Webbing is left all around the glass...beautiful.
Smell is of intense caramel, toffee, and sugar cookies mixed with herbal infused citrus. Good lord, what have I gotten myself into?
Intense and charming stuff that is irresistable. Reminds me a little of Dark Horse's Double Crooked Tree.
Taste mimics the aromas with rich caramel and herb filled ecstacy.
Mouthfeel is full bodied, chewy, sweet, bitter, balanced...gimme this over a dfh 120! I adore this beer. Fellow beer lovers, do yourselves a favor and grab this stuff while you can. I feel blessed to have tried it.
