500ml brown bottle, best before the end of March 2011 this Real Ale in a bottle was poured into a UK pint sleeve glass (badged Everards Tiger) slowly and carefully so as not to allow any sediment get into the glass, which it didn't.
Terracotta, clear body, with a thin white head on top, the head didn't hang around.
The front label claims it is 'A Traditional Hoppy Bitter' and I have to agree. The nose was hop and malty in equal quantities, giving a semi-sweet aroma with citrus esters coming through too.
The hops take second place in the initial taste, the malts being the major factor at first, then the hops kick in and the bitterness comes to the fore. Not a wonderful beer, but certainly a good one.
