I tried this at the brewery. It poured a clear golden with white head that did not leave much lace. The scent had coffee. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with a coffee presence. The mouthfeel was lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall its a decent beer.

Hazy pale yellow with a minimal white film.

Smell is light roast coffee and taste adds vanilla and bread. The coffee is lightly fruity, like berries, and a little floral.

Bouncy carbonation, semi-wet.

12 oz pour on tap

A: LIGHT gold body with a slight filmy white head.

S: light coffee with almost a cream sugar smell with light grain and breadiness.

T: The Coffee pushes down the grainy corn and makes it play nicer on the tongue than their regular Kolsch.

M: Pretty high carbonation odd.

O: This is much better than their regular Kolsch. The Coffee helps mellow the grainy almost green apple taste of the regular.

a good concept and a pretty solid execution, but i definitely was left looking for a little more coffee. that said, the base beer is really delicate, so even a little bit of coffee makes a fairly substantial contribution to the beer. its uncommon to have this earthy roast in such an otherwise simple and clean malt driven beer like a kolsch, neat style to do this with for sure. the coffee is a bit more vibrant in the aroma than the flavor, and there is plenty of german type ale yeast to this as well. flavorful for being so light, the coffee lends nice balance and even a slight smoke hint, but i would like it more if i could taste it more, its still kolsch before its coffee beer which is nice, but its nowhere near the line, i would say at least 10 to 20% more coffee would improve this a little. good carbonation and enormously easy drinking. where is this beer on all my hungover summer mornings?! these guys are onto it, i have been impressed with what i have had from them, and am definitely on the hunt to try some more!

Delicious take on the style. All of the characteristics of a kolsch are there, except the surprising (and intense) coffee flavor. Very unusual and exceptional beer.

On tap at Willoughby Brewing Company in Willoughby, OH.

This one pours like a standard kolsch, golden straw yellow.

This smells like cheap coffee mixed into a Kolsch. It's interesting, definitely smells good, but is slightly off-putting.

It tastes like cheap coffee mixed into a Kolsch. I think the coffee in conjunction with the slightly skunky Kolsch flavors kind of made the coffee taste cheap- because I know Willoughby has access to good coffee after tasting the PB cup porter. The kolsch underneath tastes pretty good. I know it's good because I tasted the Kaiserhof and it wasn't too bad.

This is light bodied, with a crisp mouthfeel.

An interesting experiment here that didn't wholly come together for me.

A - As far as a Kolsch goes, this one doesn't surprise.

S - coffee on the nose, not much else

T - Good coffee flavor, not much else going on. It's a Kolsch.

M - Highly carbonated Kolsch, light and effervescent for the most part. Essentially a standard Kolsch with coffee flavoring added.

O - Basically an improved version of your average kolsch type of beer. I would drink one again, but with th selection at the brewery that is not likely to happen
