Nice exotic aroma - strong, spicy and complex with notes of pepper and a whiff of Grand Marnier. But the taste is overly bitter in my view, in a manner that doesn't account for the bittering elements of the traditional wit spice combo of coriander and bitter orange peel, or the dry graininess of wheat. This makes the beer a bit overly zestful and challenging to appreciate.
The color is of densely opaque pale rust. Even the taste hints at rustiness. (Not rusticity or oxidation, just rust.) And I'm not sure why they're serving ales in plastic cups tonight but the disposable "glass" ware does little to enhance the experience.
Everything about this spring seasonal tells me the beer is fresh and well brewed. It's the recipe that just doesn't grab me. It's not bad, just a bit overplayed.
