I suppose "amber" is an ambiguous enough operative to apply to Clinton Street's "amber ale", but my inclination is to tag it a sweet brown ale. The color is nearly walnut and the flavor is consistent with the brown ales that originated in London and that lean on an appealing caramel sweetness with simple integrated bittering.
Though the label seems misplaced and the body is too watery for American tastes, the beer itself is enjoyable for its casual sweetness and implied nutriment. It drinks like a sweet grainwater with just enough alcohol to keep the plumbing clean.
A workingman's brown whose aftertaste blossoms with malted flare, though a peculiar amber ale by common standards.
