Actually a black IPA - no category for that here. Those are rarely great, and sometimes not drinkable. But this is a good one. They claim 67 IBUs, which sounds about right.

Poured on-tap at the brewery and served in a shaker pint, the beer is a dark, blackish coloring, with a frothy, foamy, tan head. Dense looking. Nose of grapefruit, coffee, resin, pine, and hops spice. Flavors are resinous hops forward, with a bold, roasted coffee backbone, with tropical and citrus highlights, and a pine pitch overlay. Mid-bodied and dry, with a roasted and resinous aftertaste. Heavy. Slick and dry finish, with a bitter linger. Very solid brew.

Sampled on tap in 2012 at Asheville Brewing Company as part of a beer flight. Intriguing aroma and attractive, dark pour leads to a surprisingly complex but smooth taste and slow, warming mouthfeel. A great addition to the Asheville Brewing Company lineup!
