Really nice building, lots of people went on a Saturday afternoon pretty crowded had to wait a bit for beers. The vibe is nice, beers are not bad right downtown so a lot going on. Better places to get a beer in Asheville based on beer quality.

The Green Man Brewery is a great destination. The vibe is fantastic. The staff member gave me her honest opinion and recommended an IPA that was just canned.

its cool how this little corner of asheville has become such a brewery mecca. there are awesome breweries literally everywhere in these couple of blocks, and its neat that these guys have two spots right next to each other. the original is right up the hill from the new one, which they call the mansion. it has a neat little beer garden area with cool plants, relaxed seating, odd garden trinkets and such, and a garage door open, windy, warehouse looking brewery right next to it, small bar in front with a great mellow low brow energy and vibe, and the brewery equipment in the back. its a lot less built up and frilly than a lot of spots in town, and it attracts that kind of crowd. they had a nice list of beers, which are largely hop driven, thats what they are known for, at least to me, so it was cool to see a lot of them on. bartender was prompt but not real friendly or chatty, seemed kind of pissed off actually, but we tipped well anyway and she seemed pleasantly surprised. i liked both beers i had in here, both hoppy, which i think is what they do best. at the mansion there is a totally different energy, its brand new and stone, clean and cool, nice in the summer, sort of like a castle, big and filled with echoes. they have a little gift shop in the front, a bunch of beers on tap, and apparently do packaging upstairs. its gorgeous and comfortable at the bar, but the service was sort of the same. i didnt see food at either place even though it is listed here. i liked the energy in both bars, two really different experiences, so if you dont love on, check out the other. awesome beer here obviously, and a staple brewery in this market. stoked i got to check it out. ill be back for sure!

Very cool brewery, the building has multiple floors and a balcony which is beautiful in this mountain town. The beers are good, but hit or miss. The service was great and the selection was also quite good.

This is the original Green Man Brewery “Dirty Jacks” it’s very green inside and has 10+ Green Man beers on tap. They have lots barrels stocked in this place and still brew a little in there as well.

The space is really cool. 2 floors and the second floor has an outside deck. The space is modern, clean and nice. There were a lot of choices of beer. However, after ordering 4 different kinds I only had 1 that I liked enough to finish. To be fair it was really good. The other 3 beers were honestly kind of forgettable. We did not eat there so I'm not sure about the food. I just wished all their beers matched the quality of the space.

Large, multi-level, architecturally interesting, new facility with an impressive range of quality beers. Beer to go available on the ground level. I have not tried food yet.

Dirty Jacks, the original tasting room has it charm, unless they had a soccer game on the TV where the yelling at the TV made it less than enjoyable experience.

Huge expansion now open and a much more tourist attracting vibe, so if you want to feel like you are in a big city brewery, check out the Green Mansion. If you want to enjoy the Asheville Beer Vibe, go to the original tasting room, Dirty Jacks.

I first stopped in the original building first. Smallish bar area that could seat about 6 folks. Some brewing tanks were visible. There was an outdoor seating area with a wide variety of different furniture. There were about 10 beers on draft, and the ones I had were good but not overly impressive. Then I walked to the newer building which has a big open ground floor area and plenty of tables upstairs. Definite contrast of original old place and the newer building vibe. Again another must stop based on the history of Asheville beer scene.

It's basically a rectangular box, with chintzy, kitschy admonishments that skew granola-crunching hippy (lumpy couch, bikes, etc.). It's loud, and the clientele were rowdy and frat-broey when I was there. The servers didn't seem to know too much about beer, and the tap list was surprisingly short for a brewery. Beer is decent.

The bartenders were not very helpful, bordering on rude. I along with other patrons felt that we were not wanted there. They were very rude when I was ordering. The staff came up and grabbed the flight trays and glasses without asking if we were done or how the beers were. I visited many of the other breweries in the area and found them to all be much more friendly and inviting. The beer was decent, but no where near good enough to make up for the overall unfriendly experience of visiting this brewery. when I return to Asheville this brewery will be last on my list to visit.

Visited on a Tuesday afternoon, actually well before their advertised 4:00 opening time, and the place was PACKED. People were streaming in the entire time we were there. Obviously a lot of regulars - a loyal and enthusiastic crowd.
Parking was a challenge - we found a place about a block away that looked relatively legal, and considered ourselves lucky.
If you're looking for "brass and glass", this ain't your place. Re-purposed industrial building - warts and all. Decor is...um..eclectic. You can spend hours reading all the various stickers/posters/crap on the walls.
Service was so-so, but in all fairness there was only one guy running the show. I don't think they have food. Beer more than makes up for it, though.

No food and ten beers on tap with half-pints available. Kind of a run-down joint operating out of an old garage in a more industrial area of Asheville; there's no air conditioning and the bar and seating are located right next to the brewing equipment. There are interesting signs with amusing quotes on the walls and mannequins, including one of Jason Voorhees from Friday the 13th (wearing a pair of bunny ears) and a life-size cardboard stand-up/cut-out of Willy Wonka. Luckily, it appears a 14,000+ square foot state-of-the-art facility is being built next door, so perhaps the run-down feel reminiscent of an expanded home-brew out of a mechanics garage is not long-lived.

Did the Beercation to Asheville and stopped at quite a few breweries/taphouses over the course of a week.
I thought Green Man was awesome! Didn't have any food and I don't believe they serve any but this was a good after dinner place to have beers.
Their beers were awesome and their staff was very nice and informative.
Highly recommend

Located, like most of these breweries, in an older converted warehouse, the place has a small patio and a larger high-ceilinged roof inside. The bar itself is quite small--perhaps smaller than my own basement bar. The backsplash area behind the bar was covered in ceramic green men, silly signs, fridge magnets, and assorted other random bric-a-brac. Kermit the frog and Yoda gazed down upon us from above the bar.

Despite us sitting right at the bar and having only about four other patrons to deal with, our server was quite inattentive and even downright surly when I ordered a samplers to try some of the beers. I always like to chat up the bartenders to get more information about the place and their favorites, but this was like talking to an inexpressive brick wall. Slapping down my sampler (with the beers in the incorrect order) and slopping beer all over our area of bar, she continued to not impress. This did not bode well for a good experience and I could feel my wife getting cranky. Moving on to the beers: I did enjoy the not-over-the-top Rainmaker Double IPA, but it didn't stand up to some of my other favorite commercial examples. Spring Bock was a pretty well balanced Maibock style as well. The Forester Winter Stout was pretty bland and watery and we didn't even finish the sample. Overall, I'd give this place a pretty mediocre score based on vibe, service, and beer quality. Not my favorite stop in Asheville, but not the worst by any means. I did notice that right next door they are building a huge facility to expand Green Man, and hope this works out well for them.

Their beers are just ok, nothing spectacular, not for the hype our bartender seemed to give the place. She was almost arrogant about their beers. We sat at the bar and it took forever to get the bartender's attention in the first place, not like it was even a very crowded time either.

Sitting at the bar, we could smell the bathroom, every time the door would open the smell would waft across the bar smelling of bathroom cleaner/urinal cake, it was disgusting.

All of the 10 beers we tried were mediocre at best, they're a starter brewery. If you're coming off BMC beers you might find their stuff palatable. For a seasoned craft beer drinker, they have next to nothing to offer. By far the most disappointing brewery in Asheville.

Go to Wicked Weed, WW Funkatorium, Twin Leaf, The Thirsty Monk, Sierra Nevada, or any of the other fine beer serving establishments, don't expect much out of Green Man.

Green Man is a small brewery on a small side street in Asheville. This place is housed in an old, small warehouse. A standard door and overhead door are your two ways in and out. A small bar seats probably 12 while a counter runs along the windows with some stools below and a couple hightops here and there. The space is small and overlooking it is the petite brewery. A nice, covered, dog friendly patio sits out back and is loaded up with seating options for such a small space.

The taplist was impressive to say the least but let me first say that all kinds of weird shit is tucked away in nooks and crannies, looking at you while you drink; Yoda, green men, just weird shit. 12-15 handles were available, all house beer. The Gose and XIPA were both fantastic beers and two of the best I had in all of Asheville. Prices were insanely cheap and growlers were available.

Green Man seemed like more of the locals hangout. They didn't seem to want to deal with the madness that is Wicked Weed. It's very laidback and friendly, a great place to have a beer and easily my favorite place, that I visited, while in the "Land of the Sky". Get to Green Man!

If I was writing this review after my first visit, it would be a 5 out of 5. It was really busy, but had such a great energy. I loved the beer. The second time was a little less impressive. The beer was still okay, but they had just built that monster Green Man mansion right down the street. I don't love that place at all. Just doesn't fit with the Asheville scene. The OG place is still nice, but I expect the next time I'm in town, it will be closed.

Cool, rustic vibe to this place. An open bay door leads you into an L-shaped bar, with lots of industrial and rustic decorations. The brewing equipment is all viewable as soon as you walk in, just to the left of the bar. There are 8+ beers on tap at any given time, and there are growlers for beer to go. The bartenders were very friendly and helpful. This place is right in the middle of Asheville, within walking distance of a dozen other breweries, and should be a stop for any beer fan.

Asheville is smothered (covered and chunked) with breweries. As an avid brewer, currently working towards brewing commercially, I've got a massive soft spot for the smaller guys. Sure, Green Man has been around a while now - they're certainly not the new kids on the block - still, their space just calls my name. I'm a big fan of tap rooms that sit in the middle of a functioning brewery. The working parts of this brewery aren't behind a big sheet of glass, they're right there beside you. You're enjoying a draft pour while sitting in the guts of the beast responsible for creating it. That's just cool. This is a great little space - small/interesting bar with a nice selection of flavors. Helpful servers too. You're also within blocks of a lot of other breweries. Love the space - check 'em out.

my least favorite of the asheville breweries i visited. i understand that green man may be the oldest in town, but that history/legacy isn't well presented. in visiting the brewery, it kinda felt like i was at bad fraternity party at a division II university. when i asked for a flight, i was told they weren't even serving in pint glasses & offered a beer in a plastic cup. yes, it was world cup. no, it was not that crowded. seriously, there were more empty tables/chairs than ppl. service was uninterested & disengaged. place seemed to need a good cleaning.

chill vibe. tiki feel outside on the side patio. not necessary all that comfortable in the carolina heat. food trucks are available.

beers are good, solid. maybe i visited on a really off day. i would have been just fine picking up some bottles at the bottle shop.

The Dirty Jacks Bar I believe its called, or Green Man Brewery is a cool little place. Comfortable, you can also try some of their new stuff or stuff that just doesn't make it to bottling, at least that is my perspective. We were there this summer and so we sat outside, but the inside looks like a cool place to hangout on those cooler less forgiving days you get in the Southern Appalachian Highlands. Asheville has a cool vibe overall but this is one of the better bars, kind of off the beaten path of downtown. I enjoyed it and will go back when I return to Asheville.
