Definitely not retired - served in a standard pint. Pours a brownish hue with a translucent clarity. Some amber highlights are present when backlit. A quarter inch, dense, cream-colored head eventually dissipates into a consistent skim. Light, textured bands of lacing are revealed during the tasting. Really not getting much off the nose, just a suggestion of malt. Taste expresses light, toasted malts, a trace of caramel, chocolate, some fruity esters and an earthy/grainy quality. Mouthfeel is medium-light in body with a lively, almost prickly carbonation. I have to say that I have only had a handful of Altbiers (most of them domestic), so I'm not sure if my review is totally representative of the style. That said, I did find this beer easy drinking and slightly more complex than a traditional brown.

I liked the look of the Light brown foamy head . But it didn't seem to last long nor did it create much lace. Smelled a light sweet malt with a hint of nuttyness. The taste started with the hint of malt and finished with a quick sharp jab of bitterness at the end. The bitterness seems to leave your tounge quickley. Leaveing a soft warm feeling at the back of your throat. This is the first time I belive that I have tried this style . Based on this beer I would most likely try other beers in this style.
