Growler share with a buddy. We both poured into mugs.
The appearance was a ruddy brown color with a finger's worth of eggshell white foamy head that slid off at a good pace. Some lace.
The aroma had some sweet nuts, good dose of caramel malts, light touch of roast, even light hint of maple, some milk chocolate but that's even super lighter. Ended with a light wisp of earthy hops.
The flavor leaned towards the sweet side initially and then as it warmed some of the bitterness and light earthiness from the hops came out. Maple and milk chocolate sat in layers behind the hops. Almost became a great blend, but left just a touch to be desired. Aftertaste was nice and quaint between the blend of the sweetness of all of those flavors.
The mouthfeel was between light and medium bodied with a pretty nice sessionability about it. Carbonation felt fine, somewhat low. ABV felt appropriate. Pretty smooth running along my tongue.
Overall, for the most part it was a pretty nice English brown ale that I could come back to.

On-tap 7/1/13 at the brewpub, served in a US tumbler pint glass.
A: The beer is a medium brown color, with a short off-white head that fades slowly and leaves a thick lace on the glass.
S: The aroma contains caramel, maple, chocolate, roasted malts and a touch of hops.
T: The taste starts out sweet with strong flavors of maple, caramel and chocolate. Then a hearty roasted malt character comes in. The hops presence is mild but brings a decent balance. The after-taste is sweet.
M: Smooth and a little crisp, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is sticky.
O: Tasty, goes down easily, slightly filling, mild kick, good representation of style, this is a solid beer to drink for a while.

the color is a decent dark mahogany with head of acceptable quality if not quantity (though it does fade)
the aroma is timid and features a tired malt sweetness. roast does come to the nose--not astringent
the hop element is assertive and is quite similar to what i sampled in the ESB. nutty, chocolate? (nah). the mouthfeel is rich enough
