Appearance:
Dark Brown / Black with a dirty brown head. The head disappears very quickly and leaves no residue. The surface effervesces very much like a coke.
Smell:
Deep roasted smell with nearly no hops and a slight sweetness.
Taste:
Heavy (almost overly heavy) roast and nut flavor. The flavor is nicely balanced with a bit of hops and a small sweet note coming from alcohol (surprising for a brew of only 5.5 ABV).
Mouthfeel:
Slightly carbonated and much less full than would be expected for a "triple oat stout." I'd almost expect to have to chew this one but it's only a medium bodied stout.
Drinkability:
A nice treat for the end of the week where an "atta boy" is deserved or for any time you want to skip a meal... Will have no problem finishing the growler.
Comment:
I tried the "Double Oat Stout" last winter and figured, if 2 is great 3 has to be phenomenal. I was slightly disappointed in that regard but overall this is a very solid beer and still worth the money and the trip.

Had this one for lunch today at Barley Johns.
Served in pint glass, this one is jet black with a half finger mokah colored head. The head doesn't have the best retention and it eventually shrinks to a small ring. Leaves little lacing.
The nose is very earthy. There is a nice toasted character here that really makes this what it is. Nice malty beer.
Taste is so smooth. Toasted and roasted oat combine with a sweet malt backbone. No hop or bitter characteristics, this is just one sweet smooth glass of joy.
Smooth and creamy, medium to heavy in the mouth. Drinkability is very good.
This is a very good beer from Barley Johns. Very smooth and easy going down, with a lot of flavor packed in. Great stuff.

Black body. Slight light brown head. Lace is adequate. Aroma is of cocoa, chocolate and coffee. Mouthfeel is silky smooth. Creamy all the way through. Aroma is of roasted malts, chocolate and coffee bean. The taste is the same pretty much. There's really a nice lingering bitterness from the roasted malts. And a milky sweet counter to the roasted bitterness. This is quite the enjoyable Oatmeal Stout.
