This one was an odd duck. Poured a dark reddish to cranberry, an aroma of dry, tart rasberries, faint sweetish malts and a faint grassy hop. Taste is odd, but I had to keep drinkin, it was just interesting. The rasberries were well handled and tasty, and you get the impression that there were definitely real rasberries involved, no syrupy quality at all. But this is a red, and the the hops are a little more involved, the sweetness of the malts less, and it plays out well. The mouth is a bit thin, light bodied, wanted more. Overall, I enjoyed this one, wierd as it was.

A- Very active and a nice thick creamy head with good lacing.

S- clean crisp smell good hop profile.

T- Good raspberry balance with the hops and good malt backbone.

M- Good thickness a little more then you would expect from a red but expected from Barley John's

D- Very easy nice treat to have once in a while. Although I think it would be much better in summer.

Originally reviewed on January 27, 2007. 10 oz pour at the brewpub. Light pomegranite aril aroma. Orange ruddy pour, with a rime of rose. Flavor is a real pithy Raspberry seed over light sweet malts and an edge of long grassy dryness. Muddled grains and distant husks combine with the acerbic seeds for a unique beer. However, I’m not sure it’s particularly drinkable or intriguing. Unique however.
