Had a glass at the brewpub, served dark with a tan head. There's a big smokey, but not quite meaty, aroma. This porter doesn't go light on the smoke, it's a mile away from the more balanced Stone Smoked Porter. More like the Schlenkerla brews. That's not a bad thing. If you want a big smokey beer, here it is. There isn't a lot of porter character, but I get a balancing sweetness and a hint of cocoa in the background. Worth a try.

This is apparently the same recipe as the Old 8 Porter, but with smoked malts added.

Served in a nonic, it is solid black with a thin brown cap of foam. A touch of lacing.

Smells malty and chocolatey with a very light smoke presence. The nose overall is not real strong.

The taste has lots of bittersweet chocolate and only a subtle amount of smoke. I was really hoping for lots of smoke, but it's just not there. Still quite tasty, but lacks smoke.

The feel is extremely silky smooth. A nice chewy thickness to the body as well.

A good beer for sure, but not quite the "smoked" beer as the name would suggest. More of an approachable smoked porter, but still good nonetheless.
