Poured a clear brown color with a small, off-white head of foam. It smelled of roasted malt, caramel and sightly nutty. Sweet tasting caramel and breadiness with a nutty flavor. Nice bitter hop bite for balance.

a much deeper brown ale here than is the standard from american breweries, short of porter on the roast, but very very dark and robust. my first from these guys is most excellent. its clear with just a little crimson around the edges of the glass that is otherwise a dense dark brown. a sturdy three quarters of an inch of khaki head all soapy and lasting sits on top. it doesnt quite smell like there is smoked malt in here, but there is a hint of that smoldering earthy autumnal element that almost makes it seems like it. tons of chocolate malt in here, a darker shade of it than seems to be common, and more roast too than usually makes its way into these. its got the bitterness from that coursing through it in taste, burnt toast kind of vibe, but it also has a nice rich sweetness in the middle, molasses. layered and well integrated and delicious. good carbonation and lots of body, a bit of residual sugar and a very mild yeast strain that does more work here than it lets on. often times these craft brown ales from little breweries nobody has ever heard of end up all tasting the same, so i was over the moon to have one as distinct and well done as this. looking forward to an opportunity to try more of their stuff down the track!

Caramel, lightly sweet toasted malt aroma. Flavor is very deeply toasted, with a roasty bitter finish. A little too roasty for the style, but tastes like the color brown should taste.
