Originally reviewed on March 17, 2006. On tap at the brewpub. Pours a clouded deep orange, with a yellow fringe. Topped with a creamy white head. Slightly sour lemon and orange aroma with mixed sweet graininess. Flavor is at first wickedly sweet; very mead like with plentiful sugars from the honey dose. Cloying. Sticky. But delicious. Very satisfying flavor. Palate is a raucous part of sweet clear crystalline malt sugars and more lemon-like honey. But, wait! Theres a growing dryness, some acerbic bitters...wow. A good run of euro type hops close the deal for complete balance. Very impressive. Outstanding for a Maibock. Replete with a smack of lemongrass.

Hazy copper. Thin light beige head. Moderate amounts of lace. The aroma here is thick with malt. Bready and spicy and toffeish. Great malt aroma. A nice fruitiness accents on the nose as well. Like a sugar glazed apple. This is a full bodied beer with some light carbonation noticeable. Flavor is sweet caramel apple. Bread pudding. Rich malts. Great flavor. One of the best maibocks I've had. This is extremely drinkable.

Deep, murky, muddy amber hue...a rich, ripe bronze...one or the other. Slim, solid head at the start, but gone quickly.
Sweet, malty aroma, mild fruit, muted caramel, lightly herbal...rich. bright, classy.
Nice and creamy on the tongue, grainy mouthfeel, large malt...this is a maibock to contend with, unlike any I've ever had. Strength kicks in early. I'm feeling the 7.5%, easily.
Tastes great, though, and that's the dilly in this pickle. I want to keep on tasting it, and the booze factor roars in too mightily to make that a wise path to travel upon.
Tangy fruitiness meets considerable malt, yummy on the tongue, and immediately drying, leading to a sophisticated turnout.
Quite a fine maibock, no surprise coming from a Hoops.

Dark orange colored...awesome sweet malty aroma with some nice floral hop scents....
Taste is top notch...I expected a lot out of this beer and I am not dissapointed...sweet, and rich but not overdone...the honey they used is evident...this has a nice honey/vanilla maltiness combined with a fresh soft floral hoppiness...the hops are not as abrasive or assertive as say Summit's but they fit perfectly with this beer...Never does this feel too sweet...
Body is full...feels like a big beer...perhaps borders into blonde doppel territory...
I am a big fan of Maibocks and this is a masterpiece....much, much better than Schells Maifest or Summits Maibock...perhaps the best maibock I have experienced....Dave really hit gold on this...
