Originally reviewed on March 17, 2006. On tap at the brewpub. Pour of clear amber and sienna with a fringe of bright gold and almost no head. Light grain aroma. Flavor is a gentle sugar and sweet almond. Moves into a silky heavy malt. Light lemon. A hint of hazlenut. Rye? But, I never taste the rye. Here, there isnt much character, nothing to impress. Drinkable, which is fine, but pretty much straight plain malt flavor. Toothy. Finishes with a very cloying banana.

Quite the interesting brew...red mahogany colored...nose is light but invitingly spicy...the rye is evident..the first impression on the taste is "sweet"....sticky sweet...flavors begin with a caramel bread base...mildly nutty....then spicy rye notes close the deal on the finish....
Body is much lighter than I anticipated...more of a regular bock than doppel...solid drinkable...I'm going to try and spread this growler over two nights but it might be hard....
Another winner from Fitgers
