Originally reviewed on March 17, 2006. On tap at the brewpub. My 80th Fitgers! Pour of rubied sienna, with a fringe of whitish. Light candied fruit aroma. Sweet fruit and phenolic spice. The bartender says this beer has some coriander in it. I don’t doubt it. Light alcohol notes. Overall, smooth, silky and very drinkable. Gentle sweet bourbon sugars and a moving even fruit character. Palate is a bit sugary, but lingers with a hint of cherries and apples. After a while, a character of fresh cut green apples really starts to show. Tasty.

Brewery Description:"A golden ale with much flavor, ester, and clean pilsner malt flavor."

I'm calling it a Belgian Strong Dark Ale because it seems to fit the description better than a golden ale. The ABV at 7.4 puts it in the 'strong" category.

Pours a cinamon color....nose is malty and sweet...a bit yeasty...some fruity components (berries and apples)..a slight rum like hint too....deeper in some anise and black pepper...aroma is probably about a 4.25 to be extact...decided to bump it to a 4.5 the more I smell it..

Taste is sweet but clean....can definitely taste the pilsner malt...a little fruitness (more apples than berries on the taste but a little of both)...some black pepper as well...

Finishes dry...crisp despite the sweeter flavors...ABV is pretty hidden....a real easy drinker....going to enjoy this with a turkey that just came out of the oven.
