The Tugboat stout was served on cask in an imperial pint. The beer is dark brown with garnet highlights. It has a brown sticky head.
I get roasted malts and a bit of molasses on the nose.
The taste is of roasted grains and a bit of over ripe apple. Unfortunately the taste thins and becomes watery. I know it is only 4.0% but come on, it should not die that quickly.
The mouth is no more than average. I was glad to try it but I really would rather have the Big Boat!

Originally reviewed February 4, 2005. On tap at the brewpub. Classic stout whiff. Very typical. Almost a little musty on the palate. Weaker version of their Big Boat Oatmeal Stout. Too watery for a dry stout. Dont bother, go straight to the other. Subsequent tastings of this have yielded a better batch, but it's still nothing to write home about.
