First off: good lord, hats off to Fitger's for filling a growler all the way up to the top. Honest, a centimeter or two shy of the actual opening of the vessel. Wow. I am humbled, and impressed.

Now, on with the beer:

Impenetrable inky black, with slim head.

Aroma: sweetness from the start, molasses, dark rum, the like...a twist of licorice and a hint of espresso. A bit of bitter, but mostly sweet and lovely. Darkly delicious.

Taste: Bracing bitterness, a tasty smack on the tongue, dry, chalky, ...and satisfying. Drink again. Cocoa, big chocolate, washs over the palate, coats the senses, then rolls back politely. Leaving cocoa powder dusting lingering in the finish.

Full to medium-bodied, this porter, with a long finish. Overall, not as dry and hoppy/bitter as some porters, cocoa sweetness really comes through. Can't help but like this creation. A nice thing to have in the mouth.

mucho thanks to FightingEntropy for the growler.

The ultimate compliment--beer brewed for you. This is an honorary beer brewed for musician Charlie Parr who performed the weekend I sample a draft of his namesake. Listed as at Robust Porter online, it is definately that--jet black opaque beer with no highlights, and a light tan head the fell quickly. Very strong coffee bite with smooth chocolate underneath with a malty base that reach out to grab your taste buds. Also, fruity esters and not overly heavy hop that smells of the northwest make this a milkshake of a porter that is a lot of fun to drink. I have the opportunity to go to Fitger's again this weekend, and this is at the top of my list.
