Black in the very center with brown fading to yellow at the edges, 1cm tan head. A lot of wheat in the aroma, yeasty and bready, some roasted grains, some banana and clove, some zesty lemon and citrusy zest. Great nose on this one, really was as good as some true German dunkels. The taste was along the same lines, wheaty, zesty, roasted grains, some banana and clove. Where some dunkels taste like banana bread, this one was more like a hefe with roasted grains almost like a stout or porter. Medium in body, really easy to drink.
Verdict: most American attempts at hefes or dunkels are crap in my opinion, but this beer crossed the line for me. It could actually stand up to some German dunkels. The slightly charred flavor of the malt was about the only thing that threw it off from the style, but it wasn't a bad flavor. Big thumbs up for this beer.
