Deep toffee amber in color, average fluffy off white head. Aroma was malty with caramel, toffee and brown sugar, but with a healthy dose of hops that were musty and resinous with some citrus. The taste was a good blend of caramel malt and resinous perfumey hops, with some citrus creeping in. There was a substancial malt backbone, but there needed to be to balance out the hops. Some fruity apples and pears. Not a lot of buttery or nutty flavors, more about the malt and hops.
Verdict: damn good. I am not a big brown ale guy, but I got one anyway and liked it quite a bit, so much that I picked up a growler. Very much an American Brown, a lot of hops, tasty but not all that complex toasted malt.
