Poured from growler into a Sprecher snifter.
A- Pours a deep brown but looks black when not held up to the light. Almost no head to speak of, just a little carbonation around the rim around the glass.
S- One great smelling beer. Bourbon, toasted malt, vanilla to go along with some brown sugar. They meld well together and no scent is more overpowering than the other.
T- Vanilla with a smooth kick of bourbon. Toasted malts with a hint of coffee in there also. A good amount of brown sugar add a little bit of sweetness that fits pretty well. Some may call this beer "hot", but I think you can get just a hint of the alcohol and the bourbon adds a certain smoothness that makes this one of the better BA beers I have had.
M- A medium to full bodied brew that is a little bitter up front but as it warms, it becomes incredibly smooth. A little heat on the tail end from the alcohol but again great.
D- For being a high abv beer, this one is incredibly smooth and the flavor stays the whole way through. I am really surprised that such a great bourbon barrel beer could come from a small brewpub in Northern Minnesota. I wish I could age this one to see where it goes but alas, it is only available on tap or in a growler. If you are ever in Duluth and they still have this beer, it is a must try.
