Neither a blackberry or a raspberry, black raspberries are a unique species of the same family. Less tart, less sweet, more fruity with a distinct flavor as compared to its relatives, black raspberry was a wonderful choice for adding to our base blond sour Basis. Our local friends at Heartland Family Farms were kind enough to grow enough of their black raspberries for this beer, and we are happy to be sharing the result. Take a bottle down the B-line Trail, up the Monon Trail, or wherever great paths take you to share with fellow travelers.

750ml with Lisa while brewing outside.
Pours a dark reddish purple, some retention. Looks good. Smells of dark blackberry and slight diacetyl. Taste is slightly tart with more butter up front then a wave of fruit, esp raspberry and blackberry. Pretty good overall, would be elite without the butter.

Purple with light frothy head. Smells like raspberries. Taste is phenomenal, smooth, pleasantly tart / fruity raspberry flavor. Not as acidic as other Uplands. Feels nicely carbonated, very drinkable and crushable during a hot day. (Wish I had more, hope they produce more). Overall a fantastic beer that I would like to revisit.

One of Upland's better sours. It has the sour punch typical of their lambics, but the sweetness (and great flavor) of the black rapsberry helps to tame the beer. Worth seeking out.
