750 mL bottle poured into tulip
Bottled - 10/6/15
Batch - 4/15
I had no idea what a mayhaw was until I picked up this bottle. Apparently it's a berry indigenous to the Southeast US, used in jams and syrups, and in this case a damn tasty and puckering sour brew.
The brew is a light golden-yellow in color, bubbly and effervescent. Tart crisp nose, carrying notes of sour apple and oak and pastries - kinda has a lemon-jelly-doughnut-thing going on.
Lactic acid pops at the front of the palate, really tart. Lemon peel, unripe berries and green apples are noted in the sour aspects. A touch of honey sweetness and oak add depth, and are more prevalent as the beer warms. Closes with a short, dry finish.
There seems to be a lot of mystery surrounding this brew. Virtually no reviews, no ABV (the bottle and website offer no help although I'd peg this 5-6% ABV) although a quick Google search leads me to think this isn't as obscure as it seems. Anyway, it's really tasty brew.

This beer is not "Come What Mayhaw" although it could be possible they are releasing an updated version in the future. This is an SBS bottle from late 2015.
It tastes like some peppers, not sure there is any Mayhaw (or even what a mayhaw tastes like). Also not that sour.
