Basis is a tart, dry, and refreshing blond sour ale that serves as a base beer for many of our sours and is refreshing, crisp and delicious on its own. Aromas of fruit and funk are followed by tart and tropical flavors after aging in wine barrels for 3-6 months.

Pours a deep copper color with ample fluffy white head that has excellent lacing and retention. Taste is oak barrel, wheat cracker, yeast, sour apple, barnyard funk. It’s acidic, a bit tart, and finishes dry. Almost a champagne or white wine aspect going on. Overall a very good sour wild ale. I see why this makes a great base for other additions. Added fruit or berries really take this over the top, but it is good on its own and the basis for something great.

Purchased from the brewery proper, bottled March 2019 at 6.8 abv. This is the standard for all of Upland‘s derivative sours (which are superb).
L: Highly, highly carbonated, bubbled going wild in the glass. Orange- light brown hue. Relatively thin viscosity. Color of honey.
S: Nose of apricot and peaches. Sour strong. Hints of sweetness and low malt. Perhaps pineapple acid notes.
T: Peachy upfront, followed by apple and acidity. Sweet sugar at the end. A moderate funky dankness throughout.
F: Carbonation on max. Light on tongue and mouth. Slightly oily. Effervescent finish.
Sweet for a sour, however not lacking any funk. I appreciate the mix of stone and orchard fruit on the palate and the high carbonation allows for a quick flavor transfer. Basis is thirst quenching and crispy. Tart like a lemonade but with sweet backgrounds like a cider. A balanced experience for sourheads and a great start for those new to the trend. Keep them coming, Upland!

Upland's base lambic that has finally been named and kegged. Depending on how old it is the sour level can easily vary. End of the day wheat heavy with some tartness.
