This is my first review for an Old Ale and my first ever taste of one. My reveiw may be a bit skewed but based on research I have done about Old Ales, this beer seemed to be a pretty good example of one.
Pours a dark amber remiscent of a barley wine. A minimal head is formed and no lacing is left behind.
The smell was lacking a bit of anything. I smelled raisins and caramel malts. As the beer warmed, the acohol aroma became more present and sweetened the overall aroma as well.
Fairly bitter. Im not sure if that was due to hop bitterness or not. No hops in the aroma and the bitterness seemed a bit chalky at times. Very smooth otherwise and again, as the beer warmed, the alcohol became more present. Seemed to make the flavor smoother and creamier.
Not a bad beer. Seems like a good beer to drink on a cold Black Friday afternoon.
