(entered from notes - sampled at brewery on 11/1/2011)

cold from the tap at the brewpub to a 12oz snifter a deep mahogany brown with no head and a thin rim of tan bubbles on the brew’s surface leaving next to no lace after each sip.

big bourbon aroma with a hint of vanilla

great big bourbon up front, brown sugar, vanilla, hint of rye. franken has entirely hidden any evidence whatsoever of bad elmer.

medium bodied, medium carbonation, sweet and sour, very dry finish.

overall – a porter ?, if so, then in name only. upland does a nice job with barrel aging and this offering is no exception. very nice, and an extremely close cousin to the bourbon barrel warmer.
