It's been years since I was there, but on one trip to the twin cities my road trip companion said we must stray off the interstate to this brew pub. We arrive late at night, they were no longer serving food, but he recommended the Porter on the hand pump. It was excellent. I wish I had been able to stay for more but since I was driving and it was late (and we were quite weary), we decided it wouldn't be prudent.
A couple of years later, after much raving about it to all my friends, I found a write-up on Sherlock's Home amongst reviews of the best 10 or 20 brew pubs in the US in a copy of Men's Journal. Since moving to Austin TX a few years ago I don't have much opportunity to go that far north but when I do, it's on my list!

A British pub atmosphere combined with an American theme restaurant commercialism. The restaurant is split between a pub with a Victorian London decor of dark wood and frosted glass panes, and a somewhat more elegant dining room. The food is dominated by supposedly British staples like fish n' chips and shepherd pie, bubble and squeek, etc. The service was very unimpressive and I hope it was just a bad night for the wait staff and not typical of the service provided. The beers, many of which are cask-conditioned ales brewed on site, are what drew me to the pub, the food was tasty but not exceptional.

Sherlock's Home is one of the coolest Brewpubs in the Twin Cities. It has a great look and atmosphere. The bar itself is made of beautiful wood. Sadly I've been disspointed with the service the 3 times I've been there and the last time I was there the service was awful. The pub-grub looks to be good and would go well with the beer, but I did not enjoy the dinner I had there last winter. The beer truly is a treat though. The Bishop's Bitter is a solid ale, and the IPA is my personal favorite. They also have a Porter, Stout an English style Lager and a Light. They also usually have a seasonal brew. If you like British cars to go with your british beer, Sunday evenings in the summer the parking lot is filled with MGs, Triumphs, and other British built cars. Despite the poor service I will go back as all in all it is a very fun place to go and enjoy some traditional cask conditioned ales and celebrate british culture.
