Pours brown(ish) rather than amber, big foamy head for a long time.
Smoked wood in the smell, not so rough though, and "bacon" is not as clear as in a rauch. A dried fruity smell also, light smoked plums.
Nice roastiness mixed with caramel, with a nice citrus undertone. Juicy but also dry dark fruit, with red grapes, dates, faint cherries and plums. Nice woody smoke, gas (which is a bit unappealing), burnt grains. Belgian yeasts, mildly spicy. Mildly minty herbs towards the finish, with some nice hop presence, bitter alongside the roasted malts.
Almost medium body, a bit too watery, but surprisingly refreshing for a smoked beer, with a crispness that really helps. Still smoke and roast linger in the aftertaste, like burnt matches and bread crust.
Even so it keeps you wanting more, which is rare for me, i don't consider rauch/smoked beers a good session choice. This one surprised me, looking forward to more from this brewery.
