A 330ml bottle with a BB of April 2020, which is insane. Acquired a while back from a webshop. The label calls it an India pale ale but otherwise doesn't give much away.
A: Poured into a tulip. Bottle conditioned. A rich amber hue with intense carbonation and some light floating sediment. Yields a vast head of fluffy white foam that lasts for a few minutes before settling as a persistent surface layer. Some lacing.
S: Aroma of fruity Belgian yeast with hints of esters, subtle spice, faint banana, earthiness, hay, mild leafiness and a touch of caramel malt. Decent enough but not much hop character in evidence - probably faded.
T: Tastes of fruity yeast esters with notes of phenolics, mild spice, faint banana, earthiness, hay, leafiness, subtle grain, vague caramel malt and a whiff of booze in the background. Quite dry, followed by a modest leafy bitterness upon swallowing.
M: Mouthfeel is smooth, tingly and dry, with lively carbonation and good body. Somewhat astringent - dries the palate. The alcohol gives it a slightly oily character. Aftertaste of yeast esters, earthiness, mild spice and a subtle leafiness.
O: A decent enough brew but lacking in hoppiness, which I presume is the result of age. Looks great, while the aroma and flavour are a pleasant blend of fruity yeast, mild leafiness and subtle malt. Nice body. Drinkable but falls short of expectations. Get a fresh example if you wish to try it.
