Appearance: Clear, bright crimson coloring, slim, soon gone head.
Aroma: Lightly spicy, fruity, floral, a little sweet and mostly malty.
Taste: A big bolt of sweet at first, That spruce shines through it all. Wood-aging at work, too. Big spruceness meets a flash of sweet. Rosy, fruity and sweet. 'm almost ready to go ahead and call it a spruce bomb. Just because. The spruce is matching the malt, and threatening to stay on top.
In the end, I have to think: a noble experiment, but not what I want. Based on that, I do wish I had chosen a mini-growler for this one. four pints is a bit more than I feel like getting into. But, I made this bed, and I will lie in it.

Sweet, spruce tips come though. Earthy flavors, some fruit notes.

On tap at the brewpub. Served in a standard shaker glass.
Appearance: Color is a deep brownish amber. Moderate amount of bubbles and about two fingers of off white head with decent retention.
Smell: A fairly sweet and toasty malt forward aroma with hints of caramel and toast. Toasted malt with hints of caramel, toffee, toasted bread, biscuit, cracker, and yeast. Picking up some sweet hints of brown sugar and fruit. The spruce hints come through. Hops are laid back but there are some earthy and floral hints. A nice red aroma.
Taste: Like the smell suggests, a toasty and sweet malt driven taste with some notes of caramel and toast. Toasted barley malt with upfront notes of biscuit, caramel, toffee, toasted bread, cracker, and yeast. Sweet taste of brown sugar and some cherry like fruit. Notes of the spruce tips come through nicely. Backing presence of floral and earthy hops. A pretty solid taste.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Creamy and very smooth with a fairly drying finish.
Overall: A solid spin on a Red Ale. Nice sweet caramel malt flavor with an interesting kick from the spruce.
