Hood Pale Ale

Dullish pale golden yellow, quite clear in body, super tall and very loosely put together light yellowy head grows fast from the growler pour, yet crumbles down slowly to a murky solid haze on top always present, lace in mega amounts of sticky styrofoam-like globs and patches. Yet another showcase of yellow beer that can and does taste great.

But first the nose, which is just lovely as it warms, incisively strong bouquet, again a fine example of something with a good amount of hops, this being Hood hops, which here brings out some dull musty grass and mild herbal spicyness thats quite earthy, almost like smokey wood in a way. Quite a nice sniffer.
Taste is nicely done with a very well rounded hop bitterness that speaks volumns of grassy notions; dry, herbal, floral, fresh, slightly spicy with a calming toasty malt backbone helping add a bit of tone to the bite. Its not overly bitter in any way, but the hops are quite significant with a resounding smooth bite and touching on a bit of herbal-like fruityness. Feel is medium bodied with a thinner delicate creamyness and an unmistakeable little grab of earthy bittering hop tones, then ending with a slight dryness lingering off in the finish with touches of burnt-like grass notes. Another great chapter in the book of single hop pales by the authors of Town Hall. Also; another wonderfully drinkable downer of a beer; this stuff goes down with amazing ease. Gulp...slurp...yum...Showcasing a simple, yet great idea. Columbus, Centennial, Hood....whats next. I wonder if an all Amarillo is possible, that would be my wish, please, please...

Slightly hazed dull copper appearnce. Nice dense creamy beige head. Lace is uniformly spotty and droopy. Aroma is leafy, grassy and herbal. Also a little caramel maltiness. The taste is quite nice. It's hoppy....yes it's hoppy. Herbal and smoky, grassy and resiny, pungent and bitter. Good hop attributes to be sure. The malt backing seems to be a little toasty and toffee-like. And there's a lingering subdued caramel maltiness on the tongue. Beer goes over the tongue effortlessly. Scratch that. The Growler goes over the tongue effortlessly. This is yet another nicely done Pale Ale by the Town Hall.

Third in the Town Hall single hop pale ale series, this one showcasing Mt.Hood. Each of these has been enjoyable, though one's enthusiasm is bound by one's fondness for the particular hop employed.
Appearance: crystal-clear, perfectly golden color, with a thick, fluffy white head, elegantly crumbling down.
Aroma: begins with small citrus, and a bit of honey, not giving off too many fruity esters, though suggestions of peach and pineapple occur later. Lately floral, as well, overall, a subdued, sweet, and sophisticated nose.
Brief hop attack begins in the taste, a blitz of bitterness that is soon captured by full phalanx of malt,(English pale malts, so I've been told) then all is at peace and balance. Rounds out dryly in the finish. Light bodied, but significantly tasty. An ideal session ale, not lacking in flavor at all, but light and inobtrusive enough to stay in the background, though you never forget, of course, how good it is.
An excellent alternative to Masala Mama, for when you want a change of hoppiness.
