On tap at the brewpub. Served in a Town Hall Chalice glass.
Appearance: Color is jet black. Moderate amount of bubbles and a solid finger of tan head which settles into a thin creamy layer.
Smell: A rich and roasty dark malt driven aroma with a scent of chocolate, coffee, and smoke. Dark roasted barley malt with a scent of dark chocolate, coffee, smoke, toast, caramel, biscuit, and yeast. Sweet hints of molasses. Dark fruit hints of cherry, raisin, and fig. Subtle earthy hops. A pretty nice roasty aroma.
Taste: Like it smells, a roasty and rich dark malt forward taste with notes of chocolate, coffee, and smoke. Dark roasted barley malt with notes of dark chocolate, coffee, smoke, caramel, toast, biscuit, and yeast. Sweet taste of molasses and cream. Dark fruit undertones of raisin, cherry, and fig. A very nice taste.
Mouthfeel: Full bodied with a moderate level of carbonation. Creamy, slick, and silky. Alcohol is hidden well.
Overall: A very good take on a Baltic Porter. Has the big roasty and smokey dark malt flavors you expect for the style.
