yellow gold. not much foam. great with a light pilsner and gentle malt. bready, apple hiding in there. taste is exactly how it smells. very crisp and clean. has character in the malt. hop sits on the tongue gently. smooth and refreshing. wish i had some polish food.

Growler. It was billed simply as a Dortmunder. I didn't ask if this was the same as the Slamma Jamma but hey I've never been one to rock the boat so I'll just post it on here.

Absolutely perfect pour. I've never known of a brewery that seemed so concerned with the physical appearance of its beer as Town Hall. This is dark goldenrodamber with a gigantic white head that's retentive and there's wonderful lacing. Out of a growler it's nothing short of amazing.

Smells of strong foreign malts. Large nodes of peat and weeds with a very spicy yeast thrown in for good measure. Light and crisp, as is the wont for this style. But still highly complex and balanced.

Tastes--woah. The taste is intense to say the least. The first gulp was nothing short of offputting. I was expected something pilsener-like. Every other Dortmunder I've ever had was like a pilsener with bitter malts. But this--woah this is bitter as can be. And the thing is there's no traditional hops to be found. That bitterness is the malt!

The malt is hugely complex, once it warms up and you get used to it enough that you can start really examining. Bitter, earthen peat starts things off. That slides into a bittersweet node that's a combination of rich toffee caramel and a stoutish malt. It gets gradually sweeter but ends on a lingering floral bitterness that's like a walk through the fields.

I'm assuming that the Slamma Jamma Juice is the same thing as the "Dortmunder Lager," which is currently on-tap at the MTHB. I stopped in for a growler of the spring fest and had to give this a try. I've never had this style of beer before, but I've been trying to find a version as it seemed intriguing to me.

The beer is served on tap in a traditional pint glass. Good carbonated head initially that dwindles down to a standard 1/4 inch lager crown. Beautiful golden-yellow color. The aroma is quite nice. A nice mild hoppy aroma followed by some mild malty profiles. The taste of this beer is quite breathtaking. A nice crisp, but pleasant hoppy bite followed by beautiful malts. Mildly sweet, but not overpowering. Fantastic balance and great overall flavor. The mouthfeel enhances this with its lovely crispness. Finishes sharp and clean.

This is a fantastic beer. I've never had a lager from Town Hall, but this is great. Of course this review could be skewed as I have never had a Dortmunder Export before. However, this will be the bar to pass for future interpretations of this style. I'm ecstatic that this will be one of the rotating house beers in the future. I could drink this year-round, but in the summer this will be fabulous. Nice work Town Hall Brewery!

Was finally able to stop in to pick up a growler over the weekend. Poured several times into a pint glass.

A—golden yellow, very clear, with just a tiny layer of foamy white head on the top, turns into a sheet rather quickly, very little lacing is produced

S—sweet, very sweet in fact, floral tones are strong, a touch of bread, not getting much else

T—sweet malt jumps out right way, then some whole grain bread with a touch of bitterness, then fades away rather quickly leaving a sweet (and tasty) aftertaste

M—light/medium bodied, lightly carbonated, very smooth

D—very drinkable, a nice lager to welcome the coming warm weather. The growler didn’t last very long…

A few on-tap at the brewpub and fully growler worthy as this comes from the growler somewhat after:

Crystal clear gold body that's close to medium tone but sends off a lighter reminiscence in most brighter light. Faint carbonation bubbles slowly percolate. White cap of smooth foam stays intact for quite some time. Hell, longer than the snow of recent that affected a days worth of traffic. Speaking of which, the lacing creates a nice set of ringing snowy-like drifts across the glass.

The wiffer on this is short, sweet, and tender with a bready sweetness of grains and malt. Only a small flurry of floral hopping makes a note as it warms. But the groundwork of malt here is stable and intent on so.

Taste is slippery and wet. Quite crisp, brisk, and clean with not much but the regular tendencies of most lager beers being presented in the forefront. Ahhh, but wait...just past the midway point this decides to step it up a notch and carry terrificly clean grainy flavors and Bavarian pretzeled breadish sweetness and fluffy, light texture. Firm and holding throughout the finish keeping a mild dance of slightly herbal grains and hops across the floor of the palate and mirrored along the walls with sensing longevity and slightly sweetened breadyness. All worth the while to drink it just to get that finish to fold into place as the front lulls you into a creeping sense of whats to come with its incredible cleanness and wayword pause. Then as if to say "Hello, how are you..." the flavors begin to steadily take their place along the cavity of the palates' structure and leaves the mind and tasting buds craving for it to happen all over again. Quite nice.

Extra clean and firm feel of medium bodyishness that just flows with the go of this brew.

Totally guzzable! Outstanding drinkabilty. No surprise really from Hoops at Town Hall. At first I wanted to try to come up with a bunch of basketball analogies for this review, but once I got a few pints in me I found this to be much more worthy than that. Hope you like...I did.

Pours to a clear, deep golden color with a thick off-white head. It leaves a good amount of lacing when sipped down. It has a steady flow of carbonation.

The aroma is floral and a bit grainy. There is also a pleasant bready/toastiness in the aroma.

The flavor is of floral hops and a bready maltiness. Very clean in flavor.

It is a bit fuller in body than I would have expected, which was a nice surprise. It has a nice malt, hop balance...more hop aroma and flavor than most lagers.

This is a nice beer.

Crystal clear perfect shade of golden. Medium sized white head leaves moderate amounts of lace. Aroma is pretty nice. Bready and grainy malts. Slight floral attributes. Upon tasting, the breadiness is first and foremost in the malt profile. And quite nice. The overall maltiness is firm and substantial. The palate is full and round and slightly sweet. Hops only add minor contributions. Slight floral qualities. The finish is dry. Leaves me longing for another. This is quite nice and downable by the gallon.

Here's one vote for more lagers like this from Town Hall. Even if it takes up valuable "tank space."

Clear, golden/amber-y hued, shortish, soon gone head.

Little aromatics, simple and inoffensive, typically lagerish, but not bad.

Taste: nice, slightly sweetish, classically malty, then drying nicely out. No hops speaking up, and no flavors too forward. Light bodied, quick finish, feels like a classic Dortmunder. A well-done, easy to drink lager. No one can complain about this one. (well, except when it takes up time in the fermenter that would have gone to making a new batch of Masala Mama IPA...and we hophead's go weeping in it's abscence for a week!)

Created to go along with the NCAA Championship Games going on at the nearby Metrodome, hence the name...which I loathe, ...but, who cares about that when there's rubber balls bouncing.
