Tried @ Olde Hansa in Tallinn in Summer 2014. Served on-draught into a .5L clay jug and paired with bear meat.
APPEARANCE: N/A (served in a clay jug).
AROMA: Unbinged wort-like malts. Dark bready malts. Hints of sourdough. I don't pick up on any herbs.
A very appealing aroma of mild strength.
TASTE: Ginger snaps, mint, anise, nutmeg, jagermeister, dark brown malts. Fennel. Very herbal, and malty and tingly on the finish. Balanced and interesting. Average depth, duration, and intensity of flavour.
I like the mint, but it's nothing special.
MOUTHFEEL: Smooth, wet, medium-bodied, perfectly carbonated. Of apt thickness. Good overall presence on the palate.
OVERALL: Very drinkable. Great with traditional food and meat. I'd get it again if the price weren't obscene. Very interesting stuff, and well worth trying if only because it's somewhat unique.

Had this in Tallinn at Olde Hansa Restaurant. Best I've ever had! Wish I could get it in the US.

I'm glad that posting this review from my notes ends up as my 500th beer review for BA. Truely one of the best beers I've ever had, yet no hops. I didn't expect to find three brewpubs in Tallinn, Estonia, let alone amazing brewpubs like Old Hansa.
Served in a clay tankard with a light tan head floating just above the rim. Tastes beautiful and strong of juniper. Many other herbs are present in the well balanced flavor aswell. This beer was brewed in the old nordic ways authentically using only ingredients that were used in the medevil era. Such craftsmanship of an olde olde recipe! A VERY interesting brew which should be seeked out when in Tallinn.

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
