A schwarzbier that's brewed with ale yeast. I drink from a growler, after witnessing tavernjef gobbled up a few pints this afternoon.
clear, dark amber coloration, not even nearly black, but I'll forgive them that, resting under a crown of light tan foam, a good, solid 1/4 ".
aroma is soft, smooth, nutty, emitting notes of cocoa, but rather quiet, all told.
creamy entry on the palate, so smooth, and, face it, yummy. Nice texture, tingling the tongue, playing with the senses, flavor is sweet, but never too. Lush malt, caramel-y, nearly chocolatey taste shines through, small, but just so hop content. This is a nice one, and it only gets nicer as we go further on in...a fine session brew, rewarding, but easily passed by the lips.

On tap at the brewpub...

Very dark brown with bright mahogany highlights at the bottom of the glass. Light tan head, stable and settling at under 1/2 an inch in height. Good lace, almost sheets. Aroma showcases malt, some caramel and a bit of a nutty quality. Flavor retains this nuttiness, with just a subtle taste of a medium roast to the malt and some grain. Mouthfeel is solid, just shy of medium overall. Straightforward in profile, finishes as it starts with hopping barely detectable. Malts handle the variation and the balance on this one. Not very complex, but a satisfying beer with no off notes. Nice brew, not easy to classify as to style as it isn't lagered like a typical Schwarzbier.

On-tap at the brewpub: Not exactly sure if this would be considered a black ale/schwarzbier or not but its taste seemed as so. Color is a whiskey colored crimson orangey red ruddy brownish thing thats glowing and nearly clear with a fluffy beige cap about a finger high. Some lacing in strings.

Aroma is faint but clean and crisp with a soft sour dough bread sweetenss with a touch of floral presense like a fruity blossum of a peach or apple.

Flavor is quite yummy, nice and clean, great little tastes of bready sour dough thats fresh and sweet with a lower leveled fruit of raisin, red apple, faintly dipped in caramel residing underneath. Not sure what the malts are here, they seem like it could be black but without a roast quality, more of a bready sweetness really stands out and yummily so. This was quite the taster.

Feel is crisp and clean, about medium bodish, nice sweet bready tone with a light fruity touch.

This was very inticing to drink down, and it goes down just as easy. A great little drinker. This could be my favorite from the newer bunch of brews at GW! I will be in soon for a growler refill of this stuff!
