On-tap at Great Waters in St. Paul. Served in a pint glass. Oddly enough, this didn't have Imperial in the menu description even though it was 7.0%.

A - Murky peach juice body. Served to the brim so it's hard to tell much about head volume. There's a ring of off-white foam, and glass-coating lace as I drink the beer.

S - Wheat, grain, lemony-citrus notes, yeast. Not a lot of spice in the nose.

T - Taste is heavier on yeast, with only light orange peel, a little spice, and well-hidden alcohol. Not as sweet as a lot of American witbier's I've had, with I think it stylistically more accurate.

M - Some tingly carbonation, grainy and chewy bread-like medium-body.

D - This was easy to drink, although I felt a bit of the alcohol after lunch. Nothing special, but a solid representation of the style.

This was actually the first beer that I ever had @ Greatwaters (in a line of now many). I sampled this beer in 2009. The 2010 version was just slightly different. This year it was clear versus unfiltered. It added a wonderful brightness to this beer served in a 10oz snifter. In the light it glows like a christmas ball ornament. It has a wonderful citrus and spice aroma that wakes you like a fresh orange at breakfast. Has a nice medium white head. Has a warm citrus and coriander spiciness with a hint of banana. Very easy to drink. It is a bit stronger that noted by BA, 8.0% ABV. Excellent during the dog days of winter! I really love this beer.

Had this at the food and wine show last year but did not review it.

Burnt orange in color. Nice foamy head with good lacing.

Smells citrusy, mostly orange peel. Malt and wheat also present. Some spices too.

Wow, great taste. Sweet. Tastes like there is fresh squeezed orange juice in it. Citrus and wheat. Nicely balanced. No alcohol taste. Tasty.

Mouthfeel is full bodied and smooth. Medium carbonation. Slight warming feel going down.

I could drink alot of this. Sweet and orange taste is quite refreshing. It made me want more! Too bad they don't have this in growlers right now.

This pours a hazy orange color with a small white head that dissipates quickly. The smell is of malt and orange peel. The taste is the same, with hints of
lemon and spice. The alcohol content is 8%, but aside from the concentration of flavors, it isn't noticeable. It is served in a goblet, which enhances appreciation of the smell and taste. This is a fine tasting slow sipper. It's drinkability is marred only by the high alcohol content. A worthy effort(and the co-winner at the 2006 Winterfest).

On-tap at the brewpub: Clouded medium yellow ochre color with a slightly off-white firm cap of, almost, medium height. The cap stays the course for a bit before leveling out to a broken thin skim and thin collar. Not much lacing however, just a few spots here and there.

Aroma is deeply wheaty and sweet with a slight tilt towards some apricot and pineapple orangified jam.

Taste is more of the same with a very well established and forward wheaty sweetness thats favorably breadish and lightly decorated in tropical fruity jam. Broad, long lasting flavors of wheat based malts create one hell of a fine smooth backing as mid-ranged fruits of banana, apricot, and orangallo slide right into the finishing areas, staying full yet paled down with a smidgeon of Belgian candied sugar.

Feel is about medium with a firm carbonation set in wheat malt smoothness that lasts and lasts.

Oh my goodness, I could drink a whole bunch of this stuff! Outstanding drinkability. Its a keeper and well deserved of its 1st place tie at Winterfest this year. Congrats and cheers to more like this!

On tap at the brewpub...

Good hazy slightly brownish yellow appearance, shiny white head of almost 1/2 an inch in the pint glass. Thick rings of lace. Orange cream aroma, a bit of spice and well-developed esters. Mouthfeel approaches medium, carbonation is fine in texture. Solid Juicy Fruit and sweetened banana flavors start the profile off, the finish is nice with some assertion of coriander and a textured carob impression. Has enough thickness to help suggest a bit more alcohol power than normal. Not a favorite style of mine, but again, a well-executed rendition by the brewer, very drinkable. Co-winner of the popular vote at the Minnesota Winterfest 2006 event.
