Love the Belgian Tripels, couldn't wait to try this one. Nice golden pour with a decent head. So far so good, Typical sweet/complex aroma - fruits, breads, yeast, spices, malt, alcohol - very nice. Flavor is more of the same, starts out great than bang....sweet, sweet and more sweet. Almost thick and syrupy. Really need to rinse the sweet out of my mouth, it felt sticky. Couldn't finish it, sorry

Bottled on 11/17/14. 12oz bottle poured into a tulip. Pours a burnt golden with a subtle haze, but still had some clarity; fluffy white head that fades leaving very nice retention and solid lacing with some floaties/sediment. The aromas are on the sweeter side with hints of caramel and vanilla. Lots of cherries with hints of banana and green apple. The yeast notes are there, but don't dominate. The flavors are pretty clean. More cherry with some banana notes. Not spicy. More green apple with some pear. Very subtle syrup notes in the finish, but it's a clean brew. Alcohol goes unnoticed. Dangerously drinkable. Mouthfeel is full-bodied with active carbonation. It's smooth and easy very easy to drink.

This is a nice brew. I never had it fresh, but I can say it has aged well. Although this might not stack up to the tripels that are brewed overseas, it's still a very nice and enjoyable brew. I really like it.

Head average (three cm, aggressive pour) off white, fizzy, diminishing to irregular ring and partial layer

Body medium amber, chill haze, much sediment in bottle (bottle conditioned)
Flavor starts and ends slightly sweet, some fruity esters present, alcohol present; no distinct hops, no diacetyl
Palate medium, slightly syrupy, lively carbonation

Draft poured into a tulip at the bar. Very deep amber in color with the thinnest bubbling head. Had a cold so the smell was feint, but inviting. The first sip was delicious! Sweet, sweet candy on the tongue. All the great Belgian yeasty taste with clove and candied fruit. The mouth feel was slightly viscous and lip smackingly sticky that leaves a nice sticky lacing all the way down the glass after every sip. Gotta go back and get some bottles.

12 ounce bottle into chalice, bottled on 11/17/2014. Pours slightly hazy bright orange color with a 1 finger dense and fluffy off white head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big apricot, pear, apple, banana, clove, pepper, candi sugar, bread, herbal, grass, and yeast earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of fruity/spicy yeast and bready malt notes; with good strength. Taste of big apricot, pear, apple, banana, clove, pepper, candi sugar, bread, herbal, grass, and yeast earthiness. Good amount of earthy yeast spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of apricot, pear, apple, banana, clove, pepper, candi sugar, bread, and herbal/yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity and robustness of fruity/spicy yeast and bready malt flavors; with a great malt/yeast balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium-high carbonation and medium bodied; with a very smooth, crisp, and lightly sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very nice tripel style. All around good complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/spicy yeast and bready malt flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink for the big ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

I picked up a bottle of Saugatuck's Reverent Monk last week for $2.29 at The Lager Mill. I don't think I've had a Belgian style beer from Saugatuck and I'm interested to see how it turns out, so lets see how it goes. 2014 Vintage. Poured from a brown 12oz bottle into a tulip.

A- The label looks good, it goes a little with the name and I think it's eye catching. It poured a amber orange color that took on more of a brighter hue when held to the light with three fingers worth of very light tan head that died down to a thin ring that stayed till the end and it left some nice rings of lacing behind. This is a pretty nice looking beer, but the color was a little dark for the style.

S- The aroma starts off with a higher amount of medium sweetness with some fruit aromas being the first to show up with some banana and oranges sticking out with some pineapple also showing up. Up next comes some of that estery Belgian yeast with some typical spicy aromas and a light bubblegum like aroma. Towards the end I get some grainy and sweet malt aromas. This beer had a nice aroma, but I thought it was a little light and just a little bland for the style.

T- The taste seems to be similar to the aroma, but this time it's brighter and it starts off with a higher amount of medium sweetness with the fruity aspects still being the first to show up with the same fruits showing up and no single one seems to stick out the most. up next comes some of those estery Belgian yeast flavors with some spices and a slight bit of bubble gum showing up in the background and it's followed by some sweet malt flavors. On the finish there's hardly any alcohol flavor, but it is warming and it had no bitterness with some sweetness taking it's place and it had a fruity and Belgian yeast like aftertaste. This was a pretty nice tasting beer, the fruits were a little brighter than most in the style, but I thought that worked nice with this beer.

M- Smooth, crisp, slightly prickly, a little warming, slightly creamy, medium bodied with a higher amount of medium carbonation. The mouthfeel was pretty nice and it worked well with this beer, but I wish it was a little less warming.

Overall I thought this was a pretty nice beer and I thought it was a nice example of the style, it had most of the aspects that I look for in a good Tripel and while a couple aspects could use a little work it still fell inline with the style. This beer had a ok drinkability, it was smooth, crisp, slightly prickly, a little warming, slightly creamy, not too filling and the taste did a nice job of holding my attention, but i think one would be enough for me, anymore than that and the carbonation and sweetness might start to wear on me. What I like the most about this beer was the bright fruit flavors, I thought the pineapple aspects worked well with this beer also. What I liked the least about this beer was the aroma, it wasn't bad, but it was a little lighter than it should be. I might buy this again when in the mood for the style and I recommend it if you like the style, it's a little fruitier than most, but I think works well with this one. All in all I liked this beer, i was a little worried when I got to the aroma, but the taste redeemed it and i ended up enjoying this beer. IT's not my favorite Saugatuck beer and i would say it's a little above average for the style. Nice job guys, this was a solid Tripel, keep up the hard work.
