Really nice first sip with a great nose of hops. Attractive russet brown with big head. Pleasant roasted flavor. Bitter aftertaste provides the right zing. Clean finish and excellent drinkability.
I'm always surprised when a Brown Ale rises out of the dishwater, but this one is really good. Sort of a hoppy Pilsner meets the traditional brown. Or maybe a tart version of a Vienna lager. Anyway, it's just right for Oktoberfest.

Served in a 16oz pint glass at Saugatuck B.C. 10/25/08. Thanks to HeatherAnn for the assist!
A: Served a dark, burnished copper color. Nice hazy clarity. Sticky sheets of lace left behind.
S: Aromas of roasted nuts, toasted malt, caramel, and toffee.
T: Toasted caramel malt, vaguely fruity hops, and chocolate. More pan roasted nut and toffee.
M: Nice balance between bitter and sweet, toasty and roasted.
D: A pretty nice "chilly autumn but not quite winter yet" chewy brown ale.
