Brown glass swingtop bottle served into a Weihenstephan weissbeer glass me companion 'borrowed' from Delirium Cafe. Reviewed live.
A: Pours a five finger head of lovely cream lacing, good thickness, and good retention, though the beer is low ABV so the retention is nothing special. Dark brown colour.
Sm: Smells more like a rauchbier than a dunkel, actually. Smokey bacon notes and roast. A mild strength scent. Very interesting for the style.
T: Smokey bacony taste with some nutty notes on the fringe. More restrained and watery than a rauchbier, and missing the chocolatey goodness of most higher end dunkels. It feels messy and chaotic. Unbalanced and strangely built for the style, though not built poorly per se.
Mf: Smooth and wet. The flavours are more suited to coarseness and dryness, especially on the finish. Poorly conceived.
Dr: A budget beer that might please fans of rauchbiers, but won't be of interest to anyone else. Affordable, easy to drink, a mundane.
