No head and only a couple spots of lace. The beer has a cherry color and is nearly clear.
The nose and taste tips to the malt side--some nuttiness nearly no hop (except in the swallow and aftertaste, but even there, it is muted.) The body is spot on with a below average carbonation, which makes it seem very smooth.
Overall, an easy beer to quaff, but it won't bring home any medals.

A: Pours a dark red color. At first a one finger white head forms, but recedes in an instant. No lace to speak of.
S: Not aromatic at all. Maybe some sweet caramel malt and cereal. A slight hint of diacetyl.
T: Again, not much is here. Though it is enjoyable. Sweet caramel with light grain flavors. No off flavors.
M/D: A light body that is thin and watery. Easy enough to drink. I can see quaffing a few on a hot day.
Nothing special, but enjoyable. I can't say I would recommend this, but it will not offend anybody.

This was one of the last ones I tried this evening and its apparently a red ale. Decent color here as the dark amber sets off nicely with a small white head. Lots of malt in here as you would expect as the feep bready notes take over everything. Earthy and almost chewy as I take a sip, it was a little bit too much on the malt, but still a decent effort as there was nothing really terrible about it. Just needs to be cleaned up as everything seems to blend together.

Of the 8 samples I had. I actually drank all of this beer so it wasn't the worst. Still extremely watery body and bland. It had a weak hoppy bitterness on the finish but no commitment to flavor. Boring. At the end of my samples I asked what they had available in the bottle, hoping for a Sam Adams or really anything drinkable and all they had was bud and bud light. Grrr!!!

It looks pretty in the glass. However, it's not quite well-balanced enough for me -- way too heavy on the sweet side of the ledger, almost cloyingly so -- and for an Amber/Red Ale, I just can't find that appropriate. Not bad, but not one to get again unless the other taps are dry.

The Scarlet Ale was described as an amber ale by the bartender.
Appearance: it was a dark copper color with a decent head that slowly receeded during the session.
Smell: faint maltiness.
Taste: there was a good balance of malts and hops, and it was not overly bitter.
Mouthfeel: the malt lasted on the tongue after swallowing, and a dryness quickly followed. The carbonation was perfect.
Drinkability: this is an acceptable ale in which you can easily throw back a few after a day of walking the streets in Charleston.
