12 ounce bottle into pint glass, bottled on 9/12/2016. Pours lightly hazy/cloudy deep reddish copper/brown color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of caramel, brown sugar, brown bread, toasted biscuit, spicy rye, nuttiness, light chocolate, herbal, floral, grass, light pepper, and roast/toasted earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/bready/light roasted malts and light-moderate earthy hop notes; with solid strength. Taste of caramel, brown sugar, brown bread, toasted biscuit, spicy rye, nuttiness, light chocolate, herbal, floral, grass, light pepper, and roast/toasted earthiness. Light-moderate herbal/grassy hop and light roast bitterness/rye spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of caramel, brown sugar, brown bread, toasted biscuit, spicy rye, nuttiness, light chocolate, herbal, floral, grass, and roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready/light roasted malts and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; with a great malt/bitter/spiciness balance, and zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Slight dryness from bitter/spiciness, lightly increasing through the glass, Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/bready/grainy, and lightly sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 5.8%. Overall this is a very nice American brown/rye ale. All around nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready/light roasted malts and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; very smooth and easy to drink. Impressive malt complexity and nice rye presence, without going overboard. Just enough earthy hops to balance the sweetness and let the malt bill shine. A very enjoyable offering.
