Another beer I bought from Round Barn during our wine trail visit. Have to pour fairly hard in order to induce a head with this beer. Once the head develops it is 2 fingers in height and creamy in appearance with a khaki color. The head dissipates nice and slowly. The beer itself is opaque and black with no visible carbonation. Easily the best head on a beer that I've had from Round Barn 4.25/5 The aroma is fairly watery and light but does feature some distinctive notes of cold pressed coffee, dark chocolate, and vanilla. There is a slightly earthy/nutty aroma as well backing these latter aromas up. 3.25/5 Toffee, dark roasted barley, dark chocolate, and vanilla all seem to come out as one big bloc of flavor right from the get go. Cold pressed coffee waits in the corner by itself before presenting itself and with it comes a burst of bitterness that rounds out the sweetness from the earlier notes. The same nutty undertone from the aroma comes out here as well and reminds me of the husk surrounding peanuts. The coffee and dark roasted malt provides significant bitterness that lingers after swallowing fairly strongly. 3.75/5 A light carbonation tickle leads things off in terms of mouthfeel but this quickly goes away to more of a creamy feeling with only a slight drying. There is some lingering dryness after the swallow but nothing unpleasant. 3.75/5 By far my favorite beer from Round Barn to date. This beer has definitive flavor without being watery which is something that my previous 3 beers from Round Barn lacked. This beer leans more toward bitter than sweet but with the style this is expected. 3.75/5
