Bottle to Westvletren 12 (small) chalice

Thanks Michael for bring this to our wonderful tasting in Utrecht (December 2011).

A: Copper. Half (thin tan) fingernail head on medium pour.

S: Raisin, fig, and dark cherry with hints of vinegar, cracked wheat, and funk. Combination of sweet and sour make it smell a bit off.

T: A very interesting flavor profile here - dark cherry, burnt brown sugar, toffee, and apple tart. Bold sourness mid-palate with hints of cashew, oak, and nutmeg towards the back. Strange.

M: Medium body/carbonation.

O: A very interesting beer for sure. A bit too all over the place for my liking, but maybe the flavor profile will smooth/balance with some age.

I was able to try this beer at a tasting organized by Jeffo and Doopiedoopiedoo. Read some more about the tasting on my review of The Brewery - Black Tuesday.

This was a beer Michael brought with him, so thanks Michael for sharing.

A - Am amber looking beer, pretty clear fluid (just slightly hazy).

S - Sour!

T - Quite sour, and if you are able pinch trough its quite wine like.

M - A medium carbonated beer and finish is mix of sour and oak.

O - For a sour it is not bad. But this is not how this beer style should taste to my opinion.

250ml bottle

Pours with a dark brown body, slightly cloudy, very fizzy tan head erupts when poured but doesnt stick around all that long

Smell, very odd, fizzy tart berries, mollasses, huge whiff of alcohol, some very burnt sugar, burnt plastic

Taste, huge whack of booze and odd burnt sourness (not lambic sour, battery acid sour :( ), cigarettes on the finish, and i'm not joking there

What the hell is this? After reading the only other review its fair to say this isnt a bad bottle. I'd steer well clear of this

Best before nov/dec 08. Brown head and black beercollor. Nose is rotten vegetables and tomatoes in a burnt malty landscape. This is realy hard to go for again to discribe better but some straw and feacal note is with it. Taste is sweet alcoholic, grape and a sourness mess with afterwards burnt malts, almond, eau de cologne and wonder if one can actually drink and enjoy this. Will try this again( when i dare again) and see if it turns out better.
