Thanks Jeffo. Poured at cellar temp (just below 55F) into one of the 2013ish Bourbon County glasses.

A - As I pour it into a BCBS short glass, I can smell the peat. Very dark, nice and creamy head that slowly runs down to a thick lacing. Really looks good as I get through the glass, so bonus points here.

S - The peat is more mild than I would have thought once I dive in. Subdued to the point of approachability for those who may not care much for this profile. Not a lot going on beyond that.

T - Peat is dominate, but again is not "aggressive" as I've found similar beers to be in the past. I am actually very impressed. Turns towards some general stout-notes of a light sweetness added to the peat, mild milk chocolate behind the peat, then fades towards a creamy peat finish that not once seems boozy or overwhelming. I have blended a number of stouts with JW Black Label, and none of them have come close to as smooth as this.

F - Medium body, yet it fits the profile. I would prefer thicker bodies on stouts, and I think it would do some interesting things for this one, but I don't believe that the body makes takes anything away from this beer.

O - I am impressed. This is maybe the first offering I've had from this brewery (by design), but Jeffo forced it upon me and I am really happy that he did. As someone who has begun to dip into Scotch and begun to enjoy some of the De Molen Islay-aged beers, I will be attempting to revisit this one. Very good for the style, but I don't see this as being approachable for people who find issue with this flavor profile.

33cl bottle. Pours a very dark brown with a very small head. Smells of dark chocolate, cocoa, roasted malts and peated whiskey. Bitter and smokey taste, peated but not overwhelmingly so, with notes of cocoa, dark chocolate dark cherries and whiskey. One of the better peated beers out there.

APPEARANCE: A clear black pour yeilds a one finger, thicker looking, creamy, dark tan head with great retention. Pitch black body with lower levels of carbonation. Head slowly fades to a full cap and coats the sides of the glass. A ring and splotchy wisp remains with touches of lacing down the glass. Good looking for sure.

SMELL: Lots of oak, vanilla, leather, earthy, smoky peat aromas, some cacao and caramel notes as well. Nice and creamy sweet with good peated, earthy stuff going on. Not much base beer in there, however.

TASTE: Peat, oak, toffee, dark chocolate and a touch of leather up front. Very flavorful with more peat and booze at the swallow. Big and lignering finish of earthy peated flavors, leather, dark, bitter chocolate, burnt and roasted malts, toffee sweetness with a bit of sweet vanilla cream. Nicely balanced and not a peat bomb, with leather and sweet vanilla as well. Good stuff, though not quite as decadent and well blended as the Moine barreled stout.

PALATE: Medium-full body and medium levels of carbonation. Enough weight on the palate, creamy for sure, goes down smooth and finishes quite mouth coating. A bit of a scratch at the swallow. No real heat.

OVERALL: Really nice stuff. Probably not as nice as the Moine BA version, but this is a wondeful brew with lots of layers worth contemplating. It's a little boozier than it has to be perhaps, but that's a minor point and will mellow with some time. In any case, this is well worth checking out if you're a fan of imperial stouts and peated whisky barrels. Highly recommended.
