Never been a big fan of Bruichladdich scotch, at least the few bottles I've had. Let's see how it treats an IRS.
Whipped cream-like density on the heads from an aggressive pour. Nice lacing too. The scotch peatiness is very subdued on the nose, but given the oftentimes potent and rough aroma I've found in other Islay BA beers, this is more of a strength than a weakness IMO. Earthy, tobacco aromas are pleasant and it is all very well-integrated with the base beer. Flavor is charred oak, with typical Emelisse IRS bitterness. Far from complex, but given what it is, it's not bad. A bit thinner than some of their other variations on the base IRS.

Got this one from the Duvel guy. Cheers!

APPEARANCE: A clear black pour yields a two finger, medium-thick looking, creamy, dark tan head with great retention. Pitch black body with lower levels of carbonation. Head slowly fades to a full cap and coats the sides of the glass. A ring and splotchy wisp remains with touches of lacing down the glass. Looks good, like the rest of them do.
SMELL: Peated whisky, oak, sweet cream and vanilla, milk chocolate, dark chocolate, with some leather and earthy notes. Milder but very nice and well integrated.
TASTE: More forthcoming in the flavor. Earthy peat notes up front with milk chocolate and sweet cream. Some alcohol and whisky at the swallow and lots of wood, then a bolder and lingering finish of peated whisky, woody oak, milk chocolate, bitter pure chocolate and coffee, a bit of sweet vanilla and leathery earth flavors. Lots of flavor and more pronounced that the nose had indicated.
PALATE: Medium body and carbonation. Semi-creamy on the palate, goes down a bit prickly with a burn at the swallow and finishes sticky. Some heat lingers.
OVERALL: If you're a Bruichladdich fan and like stout beer, this is your bag. The nose isn't quite as bold and I'd hoped and the feel could be a touch heftier, but it's got all the elements there. Lots of leathery, earthy peat in the flavor profile with a good dose of wood, and a slap of boozy, peated whisky as well. A bit of time could mellow this out, but it's enjoyable as is right now. Cheers!

Pitch black pour with a very fine and tall espresso-coloured head, that is slow to rise to the surface. Smells like peated whiskeys, wood smoke, cigar smoke (or cigar buds left in the ash tray). The taste is peaty all the way, with tobacco and dark chocolate, as well as some feint vanilla and a spicy aftertaste. Bitter and smoky, with a soft, thick mouthfeel.
