Tan head. Black color.
Lots of barrel flavors. Whiskey and oak. Smoke and peat notes. Lots of chocolate and caramel. Roasty. Dried fruits. Figs.
Full bodied. Dry.
Solid, but not as good as the barleywine in these barrels.

Got this one at the Duvel guy in Utrecht
From a bottle into a snifter
EBC: 130
EBU: 90
25.5*P
APPEARANCE: A clear black pour yeilds a two finger, medium-thick looking, creamy, dark tan head with great retention. Pitch black body with lower levels of carbonation. Head slowly fades to a full cap and coats the sides of the glass. A ring and splotchy wisp remains with touches of lacing down the glass. Good looking for sure.
SMELL: Some oak, vanilla cream notes, milk chocolate, smoky aroma, light peat and hints of leather on the nose. Bold enough.
TASTE: Oak, whisky, notes of vanilla cream and milk chocolate up front. Pretty nice and smooth. More whisky, oak and sweet cream at the swallow with a bolder and lingering finish of whisky, oak, sweet vanilla cream, milk chocolate, toffee and a light touch of leather. A hints of smoke as well but not as much as the nose had advertised. Finish lingers nicely. A touch boozy.
PALATE: Medium-fuller body with lower levels of carbonation. Silky slick on the palate, smooth, goes down smooth, no bite, and finishes a bit mouth-coating. A touch of heat lingers. Full, weighty, and silky smooth. Nice stuff.
OVERALL: This is really nice. The nose showed hints of peat and smoke but the flavor had more oak and sweetness, which is more to my liking. The feel was right up my alley as well. Another excellent addition to the white label family. It seems like the base beer to this stout is a real winner and no matter what barrels they put it into, it just seems to work. Here’s to seeing more of these in the future. Recommended.
